LARION - An Ashford, Conn., man and woman suffered severe injuries and were taken to a Pittsburgh hospital after their truck was pushed off the Canoe Ripple Bridge on Interstate 80 Saturday afternoon.
Clarion-based state police identified the man and woman as Andrew Shinoski, 72, and Mary Shinoski, 62.
The three-vehicle crash occurred at 2:44 p.m. Saturday near milemarker 56 westbound in Beaver Township.
Douglas Bish, 45, Valparaiso, Ind., slowed his 2006 International tractor-trailer because the road was partially blocked due to an earlier crash.
Police said Meka Volodymyr, 44, Brooklyn, N.Y., traveling behind Bish, failed to slow his 2001 Volvo tractor-trailer and hit the rear of Bish's rig.
The impact caused Volodymyr's Volvo to veer to the right and hit Shinoski's 2003 Chevrolet truck and push it over the side of the bridge.
The Chevy fell from the bridge and landed on its roof. The Shinoskis had to be extracted from the truck, police said.
Volodymyr and his passenger, Gedevan Ananiashvili, 50, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Bish were all wearing seatbelts and were not injured.
The International rig sustained light damage. The Volvo and Chevrolet sustained severe damage.
